Update and Impact

Because of our previous efforts, Bobby's Department Store is no longer requiring the discriminatory and illegal credit card ID policy. If you have any other issues with other merchants you can make a complaint for any of the following:
1. The merchant/retailer required a minimum or maximum amount.
2. The merchant/retailer is adding a charge for using your MasterCard card.
3. The merchant/retailer required identification.
4. A merchant/retailer displaying the MasterCard decal in their window refused to accept your MasterCard card. Make a complaint here

Also,

The Flatbush Community Church no longer advertises on the ditmas park blog. As of today June 22, 2010 the advertisers on the ditmas park blog are:

1. Sycomore Brooklyn
2. Olive Design
3. Small World Pet sitters
4. NYdogworld
5. The Farm on Aderly
6. Brooklyn hearth Realtors
7. CJ Segal-Isaacson

Spend your money wisely.

Bobby's is the arm pit of flatbush. Their whole set up screams racism. Sorta like Apartheid South Africa. They hire all black male security guards, while having an all not black female cashier staff. Why would any self respecting person shop at Bobby's? Go to Target or any other place that does not treat you like a second class citizen. They will never get my money.

I love Bobby's, they have great stuff at great prices. I just got a thermos that was $25 at Target for $8 at Bobby's. Go to Target if you want to spend more for the same thing and pull the money out of Flatbush. If you shop at Bobby's, you might hit Ram's on the way home or Flatbush Latin Grill. Or even Fisherman's Cove, yummy. Keeping the money in the 'hood.

Go to Target, hit the Chucky Cheese or McDonalds, way to keep the money in the nabe and support your local business.

They hire people from all over the world. People who work hard and live locally. Some of their employees have been there for over 15 years. Give me a break, go have fun at Target, live the same, pay more.

Can't wait for the renovations to be over, the new store is going to be great.

Thanks for getting them to update their credit card policy, surprised that merchants can't require photo id.

I personally don't feel comfortable going to the Farm on Aderly anyway. It won't be miss. There are plenty of other places to go to.

Give me a break. Next time you go to Bobby's look at their hiring practices. You mean to tell me they couldn't find 1 male worker who could work the register. This is retail apartheid. An all black male security they hire to racial profile and an all female cashier staff. NO THANKS. I'm so sick and tired of this crap about buying local and keeping the money in flatbush platitude. At least Target does not racial profile and they have an equal opportunity hiring practice. Go to Bobby's and go to target and see who is working behind the register. At Target you'll find both genders and all races behind the register and they are actually nice and tell you to have a good day. I don't think Bobby's is cheaper than target either. Target has more variety, they hire locally and most importantly they don't discriminate. Just because it's a big corporation doesn't automatically mean they are the bad evil guys. Bobby's has taken advantage of their customers and their employees and their neighbors. I'm so glad we have options now and I will always choose Target over Bobby's any day of the week.

Bobby's is not conjoin twins with other local businesses. Nice try. I can go to Fisherman's cove on my way to Target also. I'm sorry but I've had a better shopping experience at Target. It more spacious and I don't feel like I'm shopping in a occupied territory. It's actually a pleasant experience. The facts are Bobby's treats their black customers as potential criminals and Target treats all their customers as their valued customers. I'm sorry but that's the way it feels to me. I haven't been to Bobby's since Target open and I have never look back.

Bobby's does have an all female cashier staff. I never thought much about it. Target's staff at the junction is more representative of the community. It's diverse. Plus Bobby's in my opinion has been a net negative to church avenue. The traffic, the double parking, the illegal cabs racing up and down making illegal u-turns can be daunting. Target on the otherhand has been very responsible and responsive to the community. They built an underground parking lot, traffic is not that bad. They hire localy. Most of their employees are students from near by Brooklyn college. They have created jobs and they don't treat their customer's like crap. I'm supporting target to the fullest.

All these bussiness that still advertise on the ditmas park blog could care less about the sensibilities of the community. They are gentrification anchors. The ditmas park blog is a gentrification blog. It's a marriage of convenience. Bussinesses (large or small) have no conscience. It's about the bottom line.

The Flatbush community church does not want to be affiliated with the dpb because they know how divisive they are. I won't be going or using any of the products advertised in the dpb either. I'm guessing there new joints was not made with me in mind anyway. I'll go where I'm wanted.

I'm going to have to say ditto to the Target love. Target has been a net positive to Flatbush. They do hire locally, they have cleaned up the junction, it's allot nicer now. They've also revitalized the whole economy around the junction. The meat market across the street has seen more business and so has many other local businesses. Bobby's is the worst. They proclaim this responsible bs yet over the last years they've been around nothing has ever gotten better. Target has been around for less then 2 years and you can see a big difference.

Wait a minute. How is buying from Bobby's, a store that discriminates, sells cheap products made from child labor a support for the "hood"?
