This is really sad that he has to explain his actions in this situation...before the earthquake hit Haiti I was hearing and seeing Wyclef discuss Yele Haiti. This organization didn't just come after the earthquake. And why is it being questioned??? If it wasnt legit it would not have gooten certified by the text message organization. I wish people would recognize that this is not just about 1 person. If you want to donate, do so if not then STFU...no one is putting a gun to your head begging u to do something...
If anything the sheep are those that don't look up Wyclef's financial records and his history, anyone who does would realize there are far more reliable and reputable aid organizations active in Haiti to give your money too.
This man just went over to Haiti in one of the worst disasters in history... picking up dead bodies in the streets, seeing the anguish among his people and seeing his country completely destroyed... and he has to defend his fund raising?? There is some hatin' here.
Why is everyone hating. If you don't want to give to this charity don't. Nobody's forcing you. I know Clef has made a major difference in Haiti. He has build a school, sports league, a news station for positive message, a music academy to give other Haitian artist the opportunity to get out of poverty and make music that can uplift the world. As a Haitian myself, I've seen the hope and excitement Clef brought to Haiti when He first made a concert way back in the 90's with the Fugees. Kids were looking at him like wow if he could make it out of the slums maybe I have a chance too. His charity is like no other. No one is doing what he is doing. He has the respect of the Haitian Government as well as the Gangs in city Soleil. Is the head of the Red Cross out there picking up dead bodies in Haiti or are they still holding back for "security reasons" If we are gonna ask all this questions about good fiscal practices. Why don't we ask why Haiti is so poor in the first place?
It gets more interesting... Yéle Haiti’s PR company, sent AllHipHop.com a list of “Financial Facts,” which can be seen below.
Fact: Yéle Haiti, originally called the Wyclef Jean Foundation, filed a tax return in 2000 and then suspended activities until 2005 and so was not required by law to file a tax return until it resumed operation.
Fact: Yéle Haiti received a clean bill of health in independent external audits conducted in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 by the firm of Tempesta & Farrell, P.C..
Fact: Yéle Haiti was guided by the firm of Grant Thornton LLP to ensure that all transactions involving board members Wyclef Jean and Jerry Duplessis were conducted to fully comply with both the spirit and letter of the law governing such matters.
Fact: Yéle Haiti offices are located in Platinum Sound, the recording studio owned by Wyclef and Jerry Duplessis in order to save money. The organization pays only $2,600 a month for the space and a shared reception service, instead of considerably more for the same arrangement in midtown Manhattan.
Fact: Wyclef Jean was paid $100,000 in connection with a benefit concert in Monte Carlo in 2006, which was organized by a for-profit organization. The vast majority of that amount went towards costs related to the performance, including the hiring of backing musicians and other costs related to the production.
Fact: Yéle Haiti purchased $250,000 of airtime on the commercial television station Telemax in Haiti that is owned by Wyclef and Jerry. We have documentation allocating the hundreds of hours of Yéle programming, over several years, that addressed a wide range of development and social issues in Haiti.
if you check out the mainstream media sites they only show the allegations, not his response. their main point was how the foundation filed 4 years worth of taxes in one year. his response explains that and everything else they claim but they aren't going to put that up are they?
This is straight Bull**** No Chaser.....Clef Keep up The Good Work And We Will Continue To Support And Pray For Our Hatian Peeps No Doubt. To The Critics With All Due Respect Do Your Self A Favor And Get Off Clef's Sack. Its obvious that you are more interested in division and slander rather than togetherness and compassion which is not surprising to me. These same tactics pave been Practiced for sometime Now. Right now to evil minds Its a Prime time to set up for a divide and conquer plan. What Better time Than Now? It happen in Dahomey and in other parts of the world. If we were to distrust Clef this would disable allot of what he can do. The Hatian peeps are @ their lowest point right Now And don't deserve the extra baggage of problems just more solutions. Its Obvious that Clef is not only welcomed home to help but he is needed. This is The Hatian Peeps Native Son!...Why Would He Want To Hurt His People?.....The Notion That His Intentions Are Self Serving Clearly Defies Logic. People Of All Races Don't Be Hoodwinked By These Evil Critics
Wyclef Jean was IN HAITI, removing dead bodies from the streets with his own hands..This is so typical of the other charitable organizations to attack him out of jealousy. Actually, this is sickening, now that I think about it! We need to pull together! The Red Cross and other Organizations appear to be "upset" that Yele is a success via text msg donations, so they'll do anything to increase dollar value for their organization. What is wrong with this entire picture? The focus of helping the Haitian victims seems to be diluted and diverted. Sad
I personally would have been happy had the media done due diligence and followed up by asking wyclef for an explanation before publishing such a scathing story, especially at such a critical juncture. I like Jean question why these questions have arisen NOW and have thrown my lot in with Yele Haiti. After watching reports of the Belgian doctors deserting haitian patients in the dead of night, I have learned to judge commitment, intent and desire by course of action. I believe that a man who is willing to put himself on the ground and dig for his fellow haitians by hand is more trustworthy than these reports would like me to believe.

Wyclef, only god can judge you, good or bad. I pray for your good, and may peace be with you, and goodness guide you.
